Adjusting the Blade Assembly Height on the Cleancut ES412 Shaver.

Even a great piece of equipment like the Cleancut ES412 Shaver can go out of adjustment with use. If you notice it just doesn't shave like it used to or starts to grab a little, it usually means the blades have worn a little and need to be adjusted to compensate for wear.

Note: The Cleancut ES1080 Shaver is self adjusting and needs no blade height adjustment maintenance.

1. First, unscrew the shave head / foil from the shaver body by turning it in a counter clockwise direction.

2. Remove the white plastic blade assembly from the drive shaft by simply lifting it from the white plastic "D" shaped shaft. Note how, when assembled, the blade assembly is gently seated against the inside of the shave head. At this point it should look like this:

3. While holding the white plastic blade assembly firmly, use a SMALL flat blade screwdriver (the ones made for eyeglasses work great) and turn the small screw in the CENTER (see photo below) of the blade assembly 1/4 to 1/2 turn clockwise. This will push the screw a little further down into the assembly, thus slightly raising the assembly against the drive shaft and the inside of the shave head when reassembled. Be careful while handling the blade assembly. The blades are sharp and can cut you. Not razor blade, "you'll bleed if you touch them sharp", but "sharp enough to be aware of sharp..."

4. Reassemble and turn on the Cleancut. When you turn it on, the blade assembly should spin at a pretty good clip, but you should heard it "scraping" against the inside of the head. If you don't hear metal to metal contact it isn't touching the inside surface of the shave head. In this condition, either it won't shave at all or it will grab and pull. If the blade assembly binds and spins slowly (or not at all) you have raised the blades too high, Disassemble and lower the blade assembly by turning the screw slightly in a counter clockwise direction to lower it.

5. Trust us, you'll be able to tell by ear when the blades are properly adjusted. It will just sound "right." Test the unit on a good "stubble" patch and make sure it works like it did when it was new. If not, you may want to make some further adjustment until you get it where it seems right to you.

6. If you just can't get it to return to the performance it had during the glory days of its youth, you may need to replace the shave head and blade assembly. We offer a Replacement Parts Kit for $25 which includes a new shave head / foil, new blade assembly and new plastic protective cap. Click on this link to check it out. The K30SP Parts Package for the Cleancut ES-412 Shaver For proper operation, you may need to adjust the new blade assembly you get in the Parts Kit using these same instructions. Note: The K30SP Parts Package will NOT fit the ES1080 Shaver. Order the K37SP Parts Pack instead.

7. Even with hard daily use you should get at least 6 months out of the blade assembly and shave head. If not contact us at HelpDesk@donnerspring.com and we'll figure out what's wrong.

8. We check the adjustment of each Cleancut ES412 prior to shipment. We find a few that come from the factory that we think need to be "fine tuned" and use the same directions we've given above. We hope you don't get one that slips by us, but it has happened (twice.) If you get a Cleancut ES412 that doesn't seem to work right try adjusting it as above (or send it back and we'll adjust it for you.)
